Democracy Gone Astray

Democracy, being a human construct, needs to be thought of as directionality rather than an object. As such, to understand it requires not so much a description of existing structures and/or other related phenomena but a declaration of intentionality.
This blog aims at creating labeled lists of published infringements of such intentionality, of points in time where democracy strays from its intended directionality. In addition to outright infringements, this blog also collects important contemporary information and/or discussions that impact our socio-political landscape.

Jay Rockefeller: 'Zero Evidence' Chris Christie Bridge Closings Were Part Of 'Legitimate Traffic Study'

WASHINGTON (AP) — A U.S. senator looking into the closures of lanes leading up to a major New Jersey bridge says he has received "zero evidence" that the closings were "part of a legitimate traffic study."

Jay Rockefeller IV had sent a series of questions to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. The West Virginia Democrat and Commerce Committee chairman wanted to know what was behind closures on access lanes to the George Washington Bridge in September.

The agency told him in a letter the closures, which caused massive gridlock, were "aberrational."

Documents released last week appear to show that they were ordered by an aide to Gov. Chris Christie as part of a political vendetta.

Christie has apologized and fired the aide but denied involvement or knowledge.

A traffic report was produced amid the lane closures.
