Democracy Gone Astray

Democracy, being a human construct, needs to be thought of as directionality rather than an object. As such, to understand it requires not so much a description of existing structures and/or other related phenomena but a declaration of intentionality.
This blog aims at creating labeled lists of published infringements of such intentionality, of points in time where democracy strays from its intended directionality. In addition to outright infringements, this blog also collects important contemporary information and/or discussions that impact our socio-political landscape.

High Water, Flooding Alerts Blanket Southern Alberta

Flood concerns remain for parts of southern Alberta as the foothills are expecting up to 100 millimetres of rain this weekend.

Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for Banff and Canmore — which is also seeing snow fall Saturday morning — as well as Airdrie, Sundre and Olds.

Recent rain fall and continued snow pack melting in the mountains has resulted in rapid flow and increased debris in many rivers, causing safety concerns.

The Bow River near Canmore is under a flood watch.

Near Calgary, the Bow is under a high stream flow advisory.

Calgary fire officials are advising against boating or watercraft activities on the Bow River.

They are also warning that high water levels and fast flow rates may have increased the rapids at Harvie Passage and only highly-experienced individuals should attempt to clear them.

Other high stream flow advisories have been issued for the South Saskatchewan River basin, Oldman River and Red Deer River.

As well, Alberta Environment has issued a flood warning for the Little Red Deer River.

Officials are warning locals to stay off the river banks as the fast-moving water can cause the banks to collapse.
