CN says there were no injuries after 13 cars on an eastbound train
derailed in Alberta early Sunday morning near the hamlet of Peers, about
two hours west of Edmonton.
Of the 13 derailed cars, 12 were loaded with lumber and one tanker car was carrying dangerous goods. A spokesperson for the train company told Canada.com the tanker car containing sulphur dioxide was upright and not leaking, thus not prompting any environmental concerns.
The train, which had 137 cars total, derailed around 1 a.m. and emergency crews arrived shortly thereafter to secure the scene.
