The couple from Quebec City, two children in tow and taking a snap at the Jack Layton memorial, wanted to know if there was a “parc d’amusement” nearby. She was wearing a hijab. He, an Expos baseball cap. I directed them to the nearby ferry docks taking tourists to the Islands. Then, I asked if I could take a photo of them. I shared it on Twitter. I don’t know why exactly, except that I may have been feeling a bit sentimental as it was the Monday after the "alt-right" violence in Charlottesville. And it seemed a good place to contemplate the idea that hope is better than fear in these charged times.

TORONTO (Reuters) - Canada's conservative Rebel Media said a technology company stopped directing traffic to its website, making it inaccessible to some users around the world on Monday as the site known for tirades against Muslims and refugees scrambled to get back online.

Last week GoDaddy Inc, Alphabet Inc's Google and other technology companies pushed the neo-Nazi website Daily Stormer offline by terminating services to the online publication, which helped organize a white nationalist rally that turned violent in Virginia on Aug. 12.

Rebel Media Has Lost 300 Advertisers In Past 3 Months: Group

Hundreds of businesses advertising on Canada's notorious Rebel Media website have pulled their ads within the past three months, according to an online campaign targeting ultra-right-wing websites.

The campaign, Sleeping Giants, told HuffPost Canada by Twitter that some 300 businesses have responded to public pressure to remove ads from the website that many argue incites hatred.

Levant faces libel claim for comparing activists to Nazis

A Montreal-based activist group filed a libel action against right wing activist Ezra Levant on Dec. 22, the same day that he lost his appeal against another libel judgment.

In the latest lawsuit, filed in Ontario Superior Court in Ottawa, Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME) allege that Levant defamed them by comparing them to Nazis and calling them “Jew-baiters.”

Judge orders Ezra Levant to pay Saskatchewan lawyer $80,000 in defamation suit

TORONTO - An Ontario judge who heard a defamation lawsuit against Sun News Network host Ezra Levant ruled Thursday that the controversial media personality libelled a Saskatchewan lawyer in a series of blog posts the judge said were "motivated by malice."

Justice Wendy Matheson ordered Levant to pay $80,000 in damages to Khurrum Awan and remove "defamatory words" about the man from his website within 15 days.

"I find that the defendant's dominant motive in these blog posts was ill-will, and that his repeated failure to take even basic steps to check his facts showed a reckless disregard for the truth," Matheson wrote in her decision.

Sun Media -- not its squalid commentator Ezra Levant -- is the problem

Ezra Levant is a squalid nuisance, barely worth contemplating.

Sun Media is the problem.

On Monday, Sun Media apologized for Levant's repellent and sexually obsessive hysterics about Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau's parents, one dead and the other an elderly grandmother and thus neither in a position to defend themselves.

This only happened, of course, because Trudeau threatened no longer to talk to legitimate Sun Media journalists, of which we have been repeatedly assured there are a few, after Levant’s Sept. 23 rant, and because former Conservative prime minister Brian Mulroney intervened in his current role as a member of the board of Quebecor, which owns Sun Media.

Shame on you for trying to turn this into a political punch. Call me I'd like to talk,” O’Neill writes as if speaking to Levant.

The federal Liberal Party leader was at the Hilton Hotel in Markham, Ont. on Saturday for a general meeting when Trudeau’s photographer Adam Scotti snapped the picture of the bridal party photobomb.

Apologies are coming fast and furious from Ezra Levant and Sun News Network. Just this week, there have been apologies for comments made about the publication Vancouver Observer and for a rant directed against the Roma people. Our parliamentary reporter Karl Nerenberg, who has been closely following the story of Roma refugees in Canada, has uncovered information about just how close Levant actually came to facing prosecution for hate crimes over his comments about the Roma. The office of the Attorney General of Ontario was contacted for comment on this story, but did not reply by deadline.

And so, Sun News' resident bad boy and low-rent, ersatz Rush Limbaugh, Ezra Levant, has apologized.

It's time for Ezra Levant to apologize or explain his hateful Roma commentary

It's 2013, and it's time for Sun News Network commentator Ezra Levant to either apologize for or explain his comments on Sept. 5, 2012, about the Roma.

Now, Levant appears to be the kind of young man for whom a phrase like "never apologize, never explain," would take on mantra-like authority. Nevertheless, it's time, or certain conclusions about Levant's views about the Roma people will be impossible to avoid.

Bezan's whinging letter about her efforts was read aloud to Winzoski by her boss as he ordered her to walk the plank.

Roma group’s complaint against Ezra Levant prompts Toronto police investigation

A complaint about broadcaster Ezra Levant’s rant that likened Gypsies to “swindlers” has prompted a Toronto police investigation.

Toronto’s Roma Community Centre, which has called the rant “overtly racist, prejudicial, and demeaning,” lodged the complaint with police on Oct. 11.

Last fall, the Attawapiskat Indian reserve declared a state of emergency. Despite $90 million poured into the reserve over five years by the federal government — into a town with fewer than 500 families — there were dozens of band members living in shanties and shacks, and even some families in tents.

The consensus media responded like Pavlov’s dog. They knew the official narrative: Attawapiskat needed more money. The problems were clearly caused by the heartlessness of the Conservatives who were mean at best, and probably racist, too.

I got some heat on Twitter this week after a story I wrote on Ethical Oil’s allegations against Vancouver-based Tides Canada.  Some folks were troubled by my story’s reference to EO having been founded by Alykhan Velshi, a Harper government insider.  I based that line on the following statement on EO’s website under the title “How it started.”
