Democracy Gone Astray

Democracy, being a human construct, needs to be thought of as directionality rather than an object. As such, to understand it requires not so much a description of existing structures and/or other related phenomena but a declaration of intentionality.
This blog aims at creating labeled lists of published infringements of such intentionality, of points in time where democracy strays from its intended directionality. In addition to outright infringements, this blog also collects important contemporary information and/or discussions that impact our socio-political landscape.

Pat Robertson, Islamophobic Televangelist, Compares 'Evil' Islam To Nazism

Controversial televangelist Pat Robertson is known for many things, especially for building a lucrative Christian media organization and leading a cohort of conservative evangelists. But Robertson's infamy has also been growing recently due to his consistent denigration of the Islamic faith. On Monday, he demonstrated once again his dislike for the religion during his daily television program, "The 700 Club."

Bemoaning the fact that he's been called a "fanatic" and a "bigot" for expressing what he deems to be "truth," Robertson told viewers that Islam is to blame for not only the Boston Marathon bombing, but terrorism around the world. He even wondered to Erick Stakelbeck, "The 700 Club's" resident "terrorism analyst," why the United States is downplaying the role radical Islam might have played in last week's attack.

Pat Robertson Claims Islam Is 'Demonic' And 'Not A Religion' But An Economic System

Controversial conservative Christian Pat Robertson doubled down Tuesday on claims that Islam is not a religion.

According to Right Wing Watch, Robertson, an elder statesman of the evangelical movement, made the inflammatory claim during an episode of his TV program, "The 700 Club."

"Every time you look up — these are angry people, it’s almost like it’s demonic that is driving them to kill and to maim and to destroy and to blow themselves up," Robertson said of Islam. "It's a religion of chaos."

The Ford administration is not going to blink

Councillor Giorgio Mammoliti vowed to forge ahead with the mayor’s budget-slashing agenda Wednesday, even as a committee he chairs voted to reject the KPMG core service review in its entirety.

“The Ford administration is not going to blink,” said Mammoliti, a key Ford lieutenant. “The Ford administration is going to continue to tell the population the truth about City Hall and where funds can be saved.”

Mammoliti was presiding over a meeting of the community development and recreation committee that debated recommendations from KPMG that include considering selling off nine of the city’s ten long term care homes, merging paramedic and firefighting services, scrapping the Christmas bureau that coordinates gifts to needy children, and eliminating 2,000 subsidized childcare spaces in the hopes the province will pay for them.

At the end of the seven-hour meeting, the committee voted to recommend the mayor spare those services from the axe on budget day.

Pat Robertson: Crack In Washington Monument A Sign From God, Earthquake Signals Coming Of Christ

Televangelist Pat Robertson suggested Wednesday that cracks in the Washington Monument caused by the August 23 earthquake could be a sign from God, and the natural disaster “means that we’re closer to the coming of the Lord.”

To explain the rare east coast quake, Robertson pointed to the Biblical prophecy of the end of the world, which claims there could be potential devastation from natural disasters leading up to Jesus' return to Earth.

On his television show, "The 700 Club," Robertson said:

"I don't want to get weird on this, so please take it for what it's worth, but it seems to me the Washington Monument is a symbol of America's power. It has been the symbol of our great nation, we look at that monument and we say this is one nation under God. Now there's a crack in it."
