Democracy Gone Astray

Democracy, being a human construct, needs to be thought of as directionality rather than an object. As such, to understand it requires not so much a description of existing structures and/or other related phenomena but a declaration of intentionality.
This blog aims at creating labeled lists of published infringements of such intentionality, of points in time where democracy strays from its intended directionality. In addition to outright infringements, this blog also collects important contemporary information and/or discussions that impact our socio-political landscape.

Giuliani Won't Testify, Despite Pledge To 'Definitively Clear' His Name By Doing So

Rudy Giuliani on Thursday declined to testify in his defamation case in Washington — signaling an abrupt about-face for the former Donald Trump election lawyer.

As the second half of his trial kicked off this week, Giuliani had told reporters that he would “definitively clear” his name by taking the stand and proving that his lies about two Georgia election workers weren’t lies at all.

What price will Rudy Giuliani pay for smearing Georgia election workers?

Rudy Giuliani, the politician who was once lauded as “America’s mayor” but descended into the rabbit hole of Donald Trump’s election denial lies, will face a Washington DC jury on Monday in a landmark case which could see him saddled with millions of dollars in damages.

For the first time at trial, Giuliani will be confronted in a federal district court with the consequences of the conspiracy theories he disseminated as Trump’s 2020 election lawyer. He will come eye-to-eye with the mother and daughter poll workers from Georgia who claim that he destroyed their lives and caused them ongoing emotional distress by maliciously accusing them of election fraud.

Giuliani spread lies about Georgia election workers. A jury will decide what he owes them.

When Rudy Giuliani steps into federal court on Monday, the only mystery will be how severely he is sanctioned for lies about the 2020 election.

U.S. District Court Judge Beryl Howell has already found him liable for defaming two Georgia election workers — Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss — who faced threats and harassment after Giuliani and Donald Trump falsely accused them of manipulating ballots after the 2020 election. Those lies fueled conspiracy theories that have festered to this day.

Rudy Giuliani's Florida Property Slapped With IRS Tax Lien Amid Financial Woes

The Internal Revenue Service has placed a tax lien on Rudy Giuliani’s Florida condo in another sign of the longtime Donald Trump ally’s growing financial difficulties.

The condo, part of a complex built in 1969, is located around three miles north of the former president’s Mar-a-Lago golf resort in Palm Beach, Florida.

Giuliani owes about $550,000 in income taxes to the IRS, according to a filing signed in late August. That’s in addition to a variety of legal bills that are reportedly mounting as the former New York City mayor faces criminal election interference charges in Georgia and other legal woes.

'Morning Joe' Brands Rudy Giuliani With A Blistering New Nickname

Rudy Giuliani has gone from “America’s Mayor” to “America’s Deadbeat,” according to “Morning Joe” hosts Willie Geist and Joe Scarborough.

The MSNBC personalities coined the moniker Friday as they recapped the latest in the former Donald Trump attorney’s fall from grace.

“I don’t know if he faces prison, if he faces bankruptcy, if he faces additional charges,” said Scarborough. “It’s just from from all directions. And this is the cost, of course, when you turn your life over to Donald Trump.”

Rudy Giuliani Biographer Spells Out Just How Dire Things Are For Ex-Trump Lawyer

Andrew Kirtzman, the author of two books on former Donald Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani, on Tuesday broke down the “extraordinary story” that has left the former New York City mayor “penniless” and “facing prison.”

Giuliani’s “catastrophic fall” is “just one of the great, kind of, rise and falls of our generation,” Kirtzman told CNN’s Kaitlan Collins in a video shared online by Mediaite.

“I mean, Giuliani was once worth $100 million. His Giuliani Partners was founded right after 9/11 to capitalize on his 9/11 fame. The place made $100 million over five years,” Kirtzman noted.

Giuliani says Trump ‘really, really upset’ by conviction of ex-White House adviser

Donald Trump was “really, really upset” when he learned that his former White House adviser Peter Navarro had been convicted of contempt of Congress, according to the ex-president’s close ally Rudy Giuliani.

“This one really got to me,” Giuliani – the former New York City mayor and Trump attorney – said Friday on the far-right media outlet Newsmax. “I was with former president Trump when we found out about it [on Thursday], and I’ve got to tell you, he was really, really upset about it.”

Rudy Giuliani Pleads Not Guilty To Charges In Georgia Election Case

ATLANTA (AP) — Rudy Giuliani on Friday pleaded not guilty to Georgia charges that accuse him of trying, along with former President Donald Trump and others, to illegally overturn the results of the 2020 election in the state.

In filing his not guilty plea with the court, the former New York mayor and Trump attorney also waived his right to appear at an arraignment hearing set for Sept. 6. He joins the former president and at least 10 others in forgoing a trip to Atlanta to appear before a judge in a packed courtroom with a news camera rolling.

Rudy Giuliani Loses Georgia Poll Workers' Defamation Suit By Default, Judge Rules

Rudy Giuliani has lost a civil lawsuit brought by two Georgia election workers after he failed to turn over discovery documents in the case, a federal judge ruled Wednesday.

Judge Beryl Howell issued a default judgment ordering the former Donald Trump attorney to pay nearly $133,000 in sanctions. In a 57-page opinion, Howell admonished Giuliani’s failure to turn over the documents as “willful discovery misconduct.”

“Perhaps, he has made the calculation that his overall litigation risks are minimized by not complying with his discovery obligations in this case,” the judge wrote. “Whatever the reason, obligations are case specific and withholding required discovery in this case has consequences.”

Rudy Giuliani is liable for defaming Georgia election workers, judge rules

A federal judge ruled Wednesday that Rudy Giuliani is legally liable for defaming two Georgia election workers who became the subject of conspiracy theories related to the 2020 election that were amplified by Donald Trump in the final weeks of his presidency.

In an unsparing, 57-page ruling, U.S. District Court Judge Beryl Howell said Giuliani had flagrantly violated her orders to preserve and produce relevant evidence to the election workers, Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss, resulting in a “default” judgment against him. She also ordered him to pay Freeman and Moss “punitive” damages for failing to fulfill his obligations.

The former New York mayor is one of 19 people, including Mr Trump, indicted in the election interference case.

Mr Trump has said he will attend jail to be booked on Thursday afternoon.

‘Donald’s an idiot’: Michael Cohen says Trump’s rebuffing of Giuliani could backfire

Donald Trump is an “idiot” for not paying legal expenses incurred by his attorney the former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani in the Georgia election subversion case, Trump’s former lawyer and fixer Michael Cohen said.

“Donald’s an idiot,” Cohen told CNN of the former president. “Let me just be very clear when it comes to paying money, he is truly an idiot.

“He has not learned yet that [there are] three people you don’t want to throw under the bus like that: your lawyer, your doctor and your mechanic. Because one way or the other, you’re going to go down the hill and there’ll be no brakes.”

Rudy Giuliani Went To Mar-A-Lago On A Humiliating Mission: CNN

Rudy Giuliani traveled to Mar-a-Lago earlier this year to plead with former President Donald Trump to pay his mounting legal bills, CNN reported Wednesday.

Giuliani, a former lawyer for Trump, and his own attorney Robert Costello, met Trump at his home twice in late April to “discuss Giuliani’s seven-figure legal fees, making several pitches about how paying Giuliani’s bills was ultimately in Trump’s best interest,” the news network wrote, citing a source “familiar with the matter.”

Rudy Giuliani Indicted In Georgia On Election Interference Charges

Rudy Giuliani, a key figure in former President Donald Trump’s effort to remain in power after the 2020 election, was indicted in Georgia on Monday for his role in what prosecutors called a sweeping conspiracy to overturn the state’s results and subvert the will of the people.

Fani Willis, the Fulton County district attorney, leveled 13 charges against Giuliani as part of the state’s yearslong investigation into election tampering. He is charged with a violation of Georgia’s RICO Act (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations), soliciting the violation of oath by a public official, false statements and conspiracies to commit forgery and file false documents, among other charges.

Rudy Giuliani's Newest Gig Is Almost Too Sleazy to Be True

Once upon a time, Rudy Giuiani was tough on Iran.

Last August, when the Obama administration returned $440 million from frozen Iranian bank accounts to Iran as part of the international deal to shutter Iran’s nuclear weapons program, Giuliani said, “I call that trading with the enemy."

Now Guiliani is defending in U.S. federal court a wealthy Turkish businessman who sought to flout U.S. and international sanctions on behalf of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei. Last month Giuliani joined the legal defense team of Reza Zarrab, a Turkish-Iranian dual national who is under indictment for, you guessed it, trading with the enemy.

Rudy Giuliani Says Hillary Clinton ‘Could Be Considered A Founding Member Of ISIS’

Rudy Giuliani amped up the rhetoric on Wednesday night, saying Hillary Clinton “could be considered a founding member of ISIS.”

Speaking on “The O’Reilly Factor,” the former New York City mayor claimed Clinton bears responsibility for creating the terrorist organization, which controls parts of Syria and Iraq, because she was secretary of state during President Barack Obama’s first term.

Giuliani’s Love for His Country Is Equal to the Money He Makes

Over the last few days we’ve seen a slew of arrows directed at Rudy Giuliani for the hateful, derisive comments he made about Barack Obama’s alleged lack of “love for his country.” There’s even been a few grunts of dissatisfaction from fellow Republicans worried about the impact of Giuliani’s outlandish comments on the 2016 elections.

Few commentators, however, have seen his differences with the president in economic terms.

That’s a mistake: Giuliani’s disgust with our first African-American president is deeply rooted in his own security-business interests, which depend on magnifying the potential danger from terrorism and gang violence to the highest extent possible.

Rudy Giuliani: 2 NYC Cops Were Killed Because Obama Told Everyone To ‘Hate The Police’

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani attributed the execution-style assassination of two police officers on Saturday afternoon to the protests that broke out across the city following a grand jury’s failure to indict a police officer for killing Eric Garner.
“We’ve had four months of propaganda starting with the president that everybody should hate the police,” Giuliani said during an appearance on Fox News on Sunday. “The protests are being embraced, the protests are being encouraged. The protests, even the ones that don’t lead to violence, a lot of them lead to violence, all of them lead to a conclusion. The police are bad, the police are racist. That is completely wrong.”

Rudy Giuliani Finds A Way To Blame African Americans For Police Killings

Responding to a grand jury’s decision not to indict Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson for killing 18-year-old Michael Brown, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani said on Sunday that the black community is more responsible for the deaths of unarmed black men at the hands of police than the officers themselves.
