Democracy Gone Astray

Democracy, being a human construct, needs to be thought of as directionality rather than an object. As such, to understand it requires not so much a description of existing structures and/or other related phenomena but a declaration of intentionality.
This blog aims at creating labeled lists of published infringements of such intentionality, of points in time where democracy strays from its intended directionality. In addition to outright infringements, this blog also collects important contemporary information and/or discussions that impact our socio-political landscape.

Obama National Security Policy Wasn't Bait And Switch, Journalist Says

Liberals who criticize President Barack Obama for what they perceive as a bait and switch on national security "just weren't really listening that closely" during his campaign for the presidency, journalist Jeremy Scahill told HuffPost Live on Tuesday.

Supporters painted Obama as an anti-war candidate, even though "he himself had never come out and said, 'I'm anti-war,'" Scahill told host Ahmed Shihab-Eldin.

But according to Scahill, who wrote and produced a documentary investigating kill lists and drone strikes called "Dirty Wars," the writing on the wall indicated that Obama would empower special operations forces and intensify the drone war. Among the chief evidence to that end was Obama's close association with politicians who voted for the Iraq War, like Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton.

"What we realized before he took office was that the people he was surrounding himself with were really hawkish Democrats," Scahill said.
