Democracy Gone Astray

Democracy, being a human construct, needs to be thought of as directionality rather than an object. As such, to understand it requires not so much a description of existing structures and/or other related phenomena but a declaration of intentionality.
This blog aims at creating labeled lists of published infringements of such intentionality, of points in time where democracy strays from its intended directionality. In addition to outright infringements, this blog also collects important contemporary information and/or discussions that impact our socio-political landscape.

Qatar World Cup 'Slaves' Dying At Shocking Rate

An investigative Guardian report published Wednesday found that Nepalese workers are dying at a rate of one per day as they toil to build stadiums for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. The report finds that migrant workers contributing to World Cup infrastructure are being subjected to exploitation and abuses equivalent to modern-day slavery.

HuffPost Live’s Ahmed Shihab-Eldin took a closer look to understand how the enormous demands of hosting the World Cup have exacerbated Qatar’s already notorious workers' rights abuses.

Watch the video above and visit The Guardian for the full report.
