Democracy Gone Astray

Democracy, being a human construct, needs to be thought of as directionality rather than an object. As such, to understand it requires not so much a description of existing structures and/or other related phenomena but a declaration of intentionality.
This blog aims at creating labeled lists of published infringements of such intentionality, of points in time where democracy strays from its intended directionality. In addition to outright infringements, this blog also collects important contemporary information and/or discussions that impact our socio-political landscape.

Doug Ford explains Pravda to journalists

As his brother’s frontline of defense against the media, the police, reality and anything else that may potentially rupture the mayor’s cozy delusion that he’s anything other than an embarrassment Katamari tumbling lopsided through civic governance, attaining layers of fresh humiliations as he spools through what’s left of his mayoralty, councilor Doug Ford deigned to speak to the press today, briefly.

Doug “Dougie” Ford (as we’re calling him) used the opportunity to express his contempt not only for the press, but for the events of human history, comparing the local media’s efforts to report on his brother’s string of asinine, quasi-criminal bungling to “Pravda journalism.” He also used the qualifier “Sylvia Stalin,” but we have no idea what that means. Maybe some sort of lady Stalin? Maybe he mispronounced “Soviet”?

What Doug Ford doesn’t understand, probably, is that Pravda was actually owned by the government to disseminate propaganda. So if the Toronto media were practicing Pravda journalism, they’d be advocating uncritically for the Ford administration.

Ford also denied that his brother has done heroin or associated with gang members since he was elected, notably. This is the most combative ol’ Dougie boy has been since he went apeshit in council a few weeks back.

But the cherry? His belligerent sign-off: “Anyways. Everyone have a great weekend. I know you’re going to miss [City Hall]. I’ll see you on the weekend staking out my mother’s place or my place.”

Sounds like an open invitation!
