Russia has announced it received an invitation to take delivery of the first of two Mistral-class amphibious ships.
RIA news agency reported that the invitation from France called on Russia to take delivery of the first ship on Nov. 14.
Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin told RIA that the second vessel would be put in the water the same day.
“Everything is going as planned in terms of the technical fulfillment of the contract, and we stick to that,” Rogozin told the Russian news agency. “As for political decisions, we assume that France should protect its reputation as a reliable partner, including in the military and technical area.”
The French, however, are saying they will wait until sometime in November to decide on whether to deliver the first ship.
At one point it looked like France would give in to pressure from the U.S. and other allies to cancel the sale because of Russia’s actions in Ukraine.
But as Reuters news agency reported, up to 1,000 French defence industry jobs were at stake if the deal did not go through.
