Contrary to recent reports, Alberta Premier-designate Rachel Notley says she's had positive meetings with energy executives.
"I've had some really good discussions with people," she said during a press conference Tuesday. "They're looking forward to working collaboratively.
"They understand what's in our platform and they believe that it's the kind of thing that, if we come together and work collaboratively, we can ensure stability and good decision-making."
Notley's energy platform -- particularly her stance on the Northern Gateway and Keystone XL pipelines, as well as her promised royalty review -- has come under scrutiny in recent weeks, starting before her election last week.
Still, Notley said Tuesday she believes "we'll be able to continue what started through those conversations and have some respectful and thorough discussions amongst ourselves.
"My guiding principle is the economic health of Alberta, job creation and maintenance, and as a result of that, the sustainability of the industry."
'Pleasant' meeting with Prentice
What's more, Notley says the incoming government will make a decision on the timing of the royalty review once her cabinet meets and discusses the issue.
"So I'm not going to make any specific conversations or determinations around timing -- except to say that it was in our platform," she said.
"It will happen within this term and it will be preceded by good, thorough discussions with all stakeholders, including industry. No one will be surprised by the way it unfolds."
Notley gave a brief statement at the beginning of the press conference, describing her meeting Tuesday morning with Premier Jim Prentice as "very pleasant."
"He offered me his insight and advice, both of which were very valuable," she said.
"Our transition work is going along very well. I've been able to review an enormous amount of briefing material, prepared for me by our public service. And I'm now working on finalizing our cabinet.
"So once the cabinet is finalized, we will announce our plans for the legislature and the new budget."
